During the 1950’s the area around the Tremont Street church began to change from a family-oriented neighborhood to housing for a transient community.  Many members of the congregation who had lived near the church relocated to the suburbs and, as properties surrounding the church began to deteriorate, some suburban members felt unsafe in commuting to the church services.  After much consideration, the Tremont Street building was sold and property was purchased to build a new church in Needham.  Pending completion of the new building, services were held in the Congregational Church of Needham, not far from the new property.
